Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
(Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, TMS)

TMS uses magnetic pulses to stimulate selected areas of the brain.
The aim is to influence neural activity and support neuroplasticity.
Treatment is provided under the supervision of a qualified physician.
Stroke and Paralysis Rehabilitation with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation has been used in clinical care for several neurological and psychiatric conditions. In stroke rehabilitation, TMS may be considered as an adjunct to standard rehabilitation for selected patients. Early and continuous rehabilitation remains important because delayed rehabilitation may contribute to persistent disability, communication difficulties, and reduced independence. Suitability for TMS must be assessed by a physician.

How May TMS SupportStroke-Related Weakness or Paralysis?
For selected people recovering from ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, TMS may be incorporated into a broader rehabilitation plan. Research suggests that repeated sessions may influence cortical excitability and support motor recovery when combined with physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Results vary, and TMS does not guarantee recovery or replace standard stroke rehabilitation. The number and frequency of sessions should be determined by the treating physician.

How Does TMS Work?
TMS delivers magnetic pulses through a coil placed outside the head. Depending on the treatment protocol, stimulation may target the affected side of the brain or modulate activity on the opposite side to help rebalance neural networks. The goal is to support neuroplasticity and motor recovery. Peripheral magnetic stimulation may also be used in selected cases to support muscle activation or spasticity management.

Is TMS Painful?
A magnetic coil is positioned over the head or, in some protocols, over a limb. Some patients may feel tapping sensations or brief muscle twitching during treatment. Most sessions do not require an overnight stay, although temporary discomfort, headache, or scalp sensitivity may occur.
