Songkran Celebration at KIN Origin Rehab Center
Preserving Thai Traditions While Sharing Warmth During the Festival
Every April, Songkran brings happiness, family gatherings, and opportunities to show respect to older family members—an important part of Thai culture. KIN Origin Rehab Center therefore organised a warm “Preserving the Songkran Tradition” activity to support the physical and emotional well-being of people receiving rehabilitation and care at the center.
This year’s programme was carefully designed around person-centred rehabilitation and inclusive participation. Key activities included the traditional water-pouring ceremony for older adults, flower-garland making, and the ceremonial bathing of a Buddha image. Each activity reflects deeply rooted Thai cultural values and beliefs.
The Water-Pouring Ceremony: A Beautiful Expression of Respect
One of the most meaningful activities was the traditional water-pouring ceremony, which expresses love, respect, and gratitude toward respected elders. Participants and staff gently poured fragrant Thai water over the hands of older adults while offering good wishes for health, happiness, and longevity.
The atmosphere was warm and colourful, with participants wearing traditional Thai clothing or floral shirts. The laughter and smiles throughout the event reflected both cultural appreciation and the joy of sharing a meaningful experience together.

Flower-Garland Making: Creativity and Care in Every Piece
The “flower-garland making” activity encouraged artistic expression, hand use, and creativity. Participants selected colourful fresh flowers such as jasmine, roses, and marigolds, then arranged them into garlands or floral necklaces.
With close guidance from the center’s occupational-therapy team, older adults and people undergoing rehabilitation practised fine-motor skills. The activity may support hand function, concentration, relaxation, and emotional well-being.
Some completed garlands were used during the Buddha-image bathing ceremony, while others were presented to older adults during the water-pouring ceremony. Each piece reflected care, affection, and happiness conveyed through flowers and shared participation.
Bathing the Buddha Image: Peace of Mind and Auspicious Blessings
For auspicious blessings, the center held a simple and peaceful Buddha-image bathing ceremony. A Buddha image was placed in the central hall, allowing participants to take part individually in an orderly and respectful manner.
The prepared Thai scented water carried a light herbal fragrance, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Many participants paused to make personal wishes while bathing the Buddha image, encouraging mindful attention and a sense of inner peace.
Beyond its spiritual meaning, the activity also reflects KIN’s holistic rehabilitation approach, which considers physical, emotional, social, and personal well-being together.

KIN Origin continues to develop rehabilitation programmes connected with everyday life and Thai culture, based on the belief that meaningful rehabilitation should support physical, emotional, and social well-being.
