Assisted Exercise and Muscle Stretching — Episode 2
This video presents assisted mobility and stretching for people who have been inactive for some time. Gentle, appropriately selected movements may help the body feel more comfortable and support joint mobility, but the routine is not automatically suitable for every age, health condition, or level of ability. Exercise choice and assistance should be adapted to the individual.
Safety: Assisted stretching should be gentle and should not be forced through pain, marked stiffness, spasm, or resistance. The helper should support the limb securely and avoid pulling on a weak arm or leg. People with recent surgery, fracture, dislocation, severe osteoporosis, acute swelling, redness, warmth, new numbness, worsening weakness, poor balance, or a neurological condition should receive individual guidance from a physical therapist or other qualified rehabilitation professional. Stop immediately for sharp pain, dizziness, chest pain, unusual shortness of breath, or a sudden change in movement.
