Assisted Exercise and Muscle Stretching During COVID-19 Home Quarantine
This video was originally created during the COVID-19 home-quarantine period and presents assisted mobility and stretching for people who had been inactive for some time. Gentle, appropriately selected movements may help maintain joint mobility and provide a sense of comfort, but the routine is not automatically suitable for every age, medical condition, or level of ability. The movements and level of assistance should be adapted to the individual.
Safety: Assisted stretching should be slow, controlled, and comfortable. Do not force a joint through pain, marked stiffness, spasm, or resistance, and do not pull a weak arm or leg by the hand or foot alone. People who have not exercised for a long time, or who have recent surgery, fracture, dislocation, severe osteoporosis, acute swelling, redness, warmth, new numbness, worsening weakness, poor balance, or a neurological condition should obtain individual guidance from a physical therapist or other qualified health professional. Stop for sharp pain, dizziness, chest pain, unusual shortness of breath, or a sudden change in movement.
